How this virtual workshop works:

Each day, Marc will be recording a video of the creation of at least one (1) image. Wearing a video camera, as well as using additional video cameras, he will talk you through every decision that goes into making the image, including (but not limted to), location choice, camera position and angle, lens choice, all camera settings, exposure, using ND filters (why and how) etc. In addition, Marc will also share his pre-planning strategies (such as finding a location, time of day for the shoot, angle of sun, tides etc).

Finally, Marc will bring the camera along to the digital darkroom and share with you each and all post production steps for each image. This task will be acomplished by recording a 'screencast' video right from Marc's computer desktop.

Marc Koegel Long Expsoure Image

For this trip, Marc will focus on making fine-art long exposure photographs, but he will also work on 'regular' landscape photographs (so this is not only for long exposure photographers only, but open to all landscape/outdoor photographers).

Images will be made in both color and black-and-white. Photographic equipment used and demonstrated in the videos include Nikon and Canon full frame DSLR's, as well as medium format digital backs and specialized camera equipment such as the Cambo Wide RS shift camera. Lenses used and demonstrated wil range from 16mm - 200mm and include specialized items such as tilt and shift lenses.

Marc will be posting the videos, and image files, to a private (for registered participants only) online community created on google+ speficially for this trip. Participants will not only be able to follow along Marc's progress each day, they will also have the ability to ask questions and interact with Marc and with the other participants.

Should there be a day where the weather does not permit photography, Marc will post videos addressing questions and/or post production of selected photographs.

New for this upcoming trip, Marc has extended the itinerary to include the more remote northern part of Iceland, as well as the Highlands (which require all wheel drive vehicles for access). Secondly, there will be an opportunity for increased interactivity by way of live webcasts to discuss your questions. Finally, Marc is excited to offer individual portfolio reviews to a limited number of participants.

You can expect an average of 10-15 minutes of video content each day, which makes a total of approx. 3 hours over the duration of the entire 10 day trip. And this is only the minimum, actual video length will vary and could easily be double (especially if there are lots of questions from the group).

After the trip is completed, the google+ community will stay active, so you can catch up on any videos and material you may have missed. In addition, for 2 weeks following the trip, participants will continue to have the ability to ask questions so that the learning continues.
