Workshop course description provided by Greg Gorman:

Join photographer Greg Gorman in this hands-on, intensive 3 day workshop as he shares his lighting techniques both in the studio and on location.

Greg will discuss how he approaches people and how he analyzes a face, as well as his use of different camera angles, lens choices and background choices to create distinguished images with strong personal style.

Mr. Gorman will also discuss and demonstrate how he works in natural light with reflectors, scrims, and artificial light.

Students will have time to shoot, putting Greg’s techniques and their own into practice, followed by group critiques.

On the third and final workshop day, Greg will cover Photoshop and post processing techniques, including his famous black and white conversion methodology. Furthermore, students will have an opportunity to make a large scale fine-art print of one image created during the workshop. Being a master printer, Greg will supervise and coach each student during the entire prining process.

Students may work with film or digital cameras for this workshop.

Greg will travel to Vancouver ahead of the workshop to personally audition and cast the models for this exclusive workshop. He will also visit and approve all shooting locations before the workshop begins.

Early Bird Discount: The first 3 people to register will receive $110 discount off regular tuition fees!

Greg Gorman’s work documents that peculiar obsession of the 20th century celebrity. His photography is timeless and not confined to has-beens, hot properties and wannabe's.

Each shot gives a picture of human nature in its infinite range. Each picture is also a testament to the individual character.

"For me a photograph is most successful when it doesn’t answer all the questions," says Gorman, "and it leaves something to the imagination."

For over three decades, Greg Gorman has continued to master the art of photography. From personality portraits and advertising campaigns to magazine layouts and fine art work, Greg has developed and showcased a discriminating and unique style in his profession.

Besides traveling the world for specialized photographic projects, Mr. Gorman continues to work on compilations of his imagery. A book is forthcoming on his award winning L.A. Eyeworks campaign and currently Mr. Gorman is in production on a book tentatively titled In Their Youth: Early Portraits, which incorporates forty years of previously unpublished work. These releases will join his previously published books: Greg Gorman Volume I, Greg Gorman Volume II, Inside Life, Perspectives, As I See It, and Just Between Us. In 2007, The Journal of the 21st Century published a book of Mr. Gorman’s platinum prints entitled Odes to Pindar.

Aside from photography, Greg’s other passion has always been wine. He is now taking his keen interest one step further by venturing into wine making. Mr. Gorman will be producing his first vintage this fall with renowned winemaker Dave Phinney from Orin Swift Cellars.

Born in 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri, Greg attended the University of Kansas from 1967-69 with a major in photojournalism. He completed his studies at the University of Southern California, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts degree in cinematography in 1972. He currently divides his time between his homes in Los Angeles and Mendocino, California.
