There is a standard way to do things, and a creative way, sometimes the two mix but it is essential to understand both in order to master even one. This is an introductory/advanced class in creating creative photographic portraits, challenging the students to go outside even their own concepts and ideas of what creativity is.

An intensive, 4-WEEK Course designed to give first a brief understanding of the basics of portrait photography and creative portraiture, then providing a space to play with the borders, or break  those boundaries, to truly create images that are unique to the students themselves.

Discussions will be facilitated on why the students are challenging themselves creatively, helping to highlight where the vision of each student comes from within themselves, allowing the space through time with in-class and take-away assignments to explore this creativity further.

Breakin' the rules!

Angela Fama is a multidisciplinary photographer, currently practicing in Vancouver as both a contemporary artist and commercial photographer.

Born in Tennessee, raised in Ottawa and Zimbabwe, she has been involved with photography for over two decades. Fama’s work has exhibited across Canada, most notably at The National Gallery in Ottawa and The Museum Of Vancouver with The Capture Photography Festival.  She shoots nationally for magazines such as Montecristo, Fashion, Vancouver Magazine, The Globe and Mail and BC Business and locally with fashion designers such as We3, Echoverde, Dace and Dahlia Drive.

Her work investigates themes of memory, meaning, emotion and change. Interested in exploring the tension inherent in our collective desire for both the temporal and timeless, she is often found burrowing through the endless excess, finding substance and beauty in the overlooked or forgotten.

“Diverse and simplistic, versatility shows in all of her work.” (Color Magazine).
