Workshop course description provided by Arthur Meyerson:
The great color photographer Ernst Haas once said, “The decisive moment in black and white is not the same in color. Each needs awareness in seeing and, because of this, a different discipline.”
This workshop is for serious amateurs and professional photographers who want to heighten their awareness of seeing in color and record those distinctive color moments.
The day begins with a classroom session where Arthur Meyerson will present a large slideshow of his famous work. This will illustrate and provoke discussions on photographic techniques and concepts, composition, as well as effective use of color, light, and gesture.
After the morning classroom session, we will serve a light lunch (including vegetarian selections). Participants are encoraged to use this time to continue discussions and enjoy each other's company. Lunch will be served in our studio so as to minimize any time lost due to travel.
After lunch Arthur will finish the classroom discussions and present the students with a variety of targeted practice assignments.
The remainder of the day will be spent shooting on-location, under the guidance of Arthur Meyerson. While the 'official' workshop program will be finished by 5pm, all participants will be encouraged to work until sunset. The shooting location will be within 10 minute travel opf the studio in an effort to minimize time lost due to travel. We encourge everyone to car-pool together.
Upon completion of the workshop day, every student is enouraged to submit up to 5 photos that they took from the day of the workshop, one each of which will be selected to create a slide show of the workshop to be presented on the VPW website.
Participants will leave at the end of the workshop with dynamic images, a greater awareness of their strengths, new technical skills, and an enhanced sensitivity in capturing the “decisive moment” in color.
As part of his stay in Vancouver, Arthur Meyerson will also be leading a 5 day Photographic Tour to TOFINO, BC. Click here for more information.
